Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Kishan

Hi how are you? I hope you find this letter in good health.

It sounds interesting you want to go for camping for the first time this summer. It will be the amazing and memorable memory for you.I think your destination is best as the summer will start the cool breezing summer will arrive which act as a cherry on the top.The destination Banff is prefect for camping holiday, you will discover new path with full of new species whether it is plant or animals. It might not be good as in winter you can burn the wood but not in summer. It has mainly winter activites over there but for next time make sure to plan for winter to enjoy every single precious moment over there. I love to accompany and more as a guide tour to tell you every single detail I have over there.

Yours loving,

Kamar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the three requested points: you suggest your friend may enjoy discovering Banff’s paths and wildlife, mention a drawback related to the lack of winter activities, and say you would accompany them as a guide. However, the advice is only partly developed. The enjoyment point is mainly a list of attractions, while the disadvantage is unclear: “you can burn the wood but not in summer” does not explain the practical problem, and the reference to winter activities is difficult to connect to a summer trip. Your willingness to go is present, but could be stated more directly and supported with a specific plan. Explain the drawback clearly and develop each point with relevant details to make the letter more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The letter has a recognisable opening, body and sign-off, and the ideas broadly follow the task’s three points. However, the body is presented as one continuous paragraph, so the shifts from enjoyment to disadvantages and then your offer to join are not clearly signposted. Connections between ideas are also sometimes difficult to follow: “the summer will start the cool breezing summer will arrive” repeats the same idea, and “It has mainly winter activities over there” does not clearly link to the earlier description of Banff. Use separate paragraphs for the three main points and clearer linking phrases, such as “One drawback is…” and “Even so, I’d be happy to come with you.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt some topic-related and descriptive vocabulary, including “destination,” “species,” “cherry on the top,” and “precious moment,” which shows an effort to express more than basic ideas. However, several choices or combinations are unnatural or unclear, such as “the amazing and memorable memory,” “cool breezing,” and “guide tour.” “Discover new path” also needs a more natural expression and clearer number marking. These errors sometimes make the intended meaning harder to understand, particularly in the description of the summer conditions and the disadvantage. Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than adding decorative phrases; precise expressions such as “enjoy the scenery” or “act as your guide” would communicate your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use some simple sentences and attempt longer structures, for example, “you will discover new path with full of new species whether it is plant or animals.” However, complex attempts are often difficult to control, and errors in sentence boundaries, articles, agreement and verb forms affect clarity. In “the summer will start the cool breezing summer will arrive,” two clauses run together without suitable punctuation. “which act as a cherry on the top” does not agree with its subject, while “whether it is plant or animals” has inconsistent number. Practise building accurate sentences with one clear main idea, then add a subordinate clause where appropriate. Check articles, singular/plural forms and punctuation when editing.
