Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Raman,

I hope you are doing well. I found your letter last week in which you asked my opinion regarding you idea of camping in this summer break. I know you love to do adventures. Also, you are very passionate to explore new things. So according to me it will be a fun activity for you as you are doing it for first time.

Moreover there are some possible drawbacks of this. The very first is approval of your parents. I do not think so that they will easily allow you. Apart from this you need particular equipments for camping. Also, stay away from wild animals.

I was also very excited to join you but unfortunately i cannot come with you. As my parents already planned a shimla trip for our whole family for this upcoming summer break. I really missed this golden opportunity. But i want you to go for this and do not forget to share pictures with me.

Yours lovingly,

Gagan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points and maintain a friendly, appropriate letter tone. You explain why Raman may enjoy camping by referring to his interest in adventure and exploring new things, mention parental permission, equipment and wild animals as disadvantages, and clearly say you cannot join because of a family trip. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others: the reasons camping would suit him are brief, and the disadvantages are listed without explaining how they might affect the trip or how to manage them. The statement about parental approval is also presented as a certainty without much context. Add a little explanation or practical advice for each point to make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, reasons your friend may enjoy camping, possible drawbacks, and your answer about joining. The progression is easy to follow, and phrases such as “Moreover,” “Apart from this,” and “but unfortunately” help signal relationships between ideas. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some flexibility in linking. To make the flow more natural, avoid relying on a sequence of short additions such as “Also” and “Apart from this”; connect related points and develop them within the paragraph. The transition from parental approval to equipment and wildlife is understandable, but a clearer link between these disadvantages would make the paragraph feel less like a list.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “passionate,” “drawbacks,” “wild animals,” and “golden opportunity.” There is also some attempt to use more expressive language suited to a friendly letter. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “do adventures,” “particular equipments,” and “regarding you idea.” “I really missed this golden opportunity” does not quite express that you regret being unable to join. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check singular/plural forms of nouns when choosing vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple sentences and more complex forms, including the reason clause in “as my parents already planned a Shimla trip” and the contrast in “but unfortunately I cannot come.” The message remains clear, although some grammatical errors occur. Examples include “you idea” instead of a possessive form, “for first time” without the article, and “I cannot come” followed by a past-tense explanation that would be clearer with a present-perfect or past-perfect form. The sentence beginning “As my parents…” is also a fragment when separated from the previous sentence. Work on articles, possessives, tense consistency, and joining dependent clauses to independent ones; these changes would improve accuracy while preserving your varied sentence patterns.
