Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Rajan,

Hope you are doing splendidly! It's been absolute ages since we last caught up! ''How have things been going with you and your family?"

I missed our college days we used to travel a lot. I am so glad that you are planning to go for a camping this summer. You decided to go on perfect weather days so you will have a fun for sure. July is the best month for camping and glamping holidays. I always wondering you can go and enjoy camping, although you only like to stay in luxurious suits. You can enjoy stay between forest and you can enjoy barbeque too.

It will be an extraordinary experience. You need to take a few tools with you for sure. I would suggest that you will not forget bug spray and mosquito cream for yourself. On top of that, you will need a some lights with you like a torch light. It might be little scary for you at very first. Moreover, You are beginner so I suggest you can go and enjoy with few other groups.

I would love to join you, unfortunately i am going to Alberta for my summer vacation. May be next time we will go together. Let me know if you need any help regarding camping, I am just one call away!

We will catch up soon! Take good care of yourself and give my best wishes to your family.

Best regards,

Maitri

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a friendly, appropriate tone. You explain why Rajan might enjoy camping through the chance to spend time in the forest and have a barbecue, and you clearly say you cannot join because you will be in Alberta. You also offer practical advice about insect protection, lighting and going with other groups. However, the disadvantages are only partly developed: saying it may be “a little scary” is relevant, but you could explain more clearly what might be difficult for a first-time camper, such as uncomfortable sleeping conditions or unpredictable weather. Some reasons for enjoyment, such as “perfect weather days,” are asserted rather than explained. More specific development would make the advice more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an informal opening, paragraphs about the trip and preparation, your availability, and a friendly closing. This makes the message easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “On top of that” and “Moreover” to connect advice. At times, however, the progression within paragraphs is less smooth: the shift from July being a good month to your friend preferring luxury accommodation is abrupt, and several sentences repeat “you can enjoy.” The opening quotation marks around “How have things been going…” are unnecessary, and capitalising “You” after “Moreover” interrupts the flow. Grouping the enjoyment points together and the drawbacks together, with clearer links between them, would improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a suitable range of friendly and topic-related vocabulary, including “extraordinary experience,” “bug spray,” “torch light,” and “one call away.” These choices help convey an encouraging, personal tone, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural expressions that limit precision: “go for a camping,” “stay between forest,” and “luxurious suits” do not express the intended ideas naturally. “Camping and glamping holidays” may also be confusing because glamping is a more luxurious alternative to ordinary camping, which is relevant to Rajan’s preferences but needs clearer phrasing. Aim for natural collocations and precise descriptions, such as “go camping,” “stay in the forest,” and “luxury accommodation.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “I would love to join you, unfortunately I am going to Alberta” and the advice introduced with “although.” The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the letter. For example, “I always wondering” needs a finite verb form, and “you will have a fun” has an unnecessary article. In “I missed our college days we used to travel a lot,” the two clauses need clearer grammatical connection, such as a relative clause or a full stop. There are also errors in “you will need a some lights” and inconsistent capitalisation of “I.” Checking verb forms, articles and sentence boundaries would make your varied structures more accurate.
