Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Chuth,

I hope you are doing well!

Well, I am greatfull that you are taking my advice for you summer camp. As summers are quite good for campins and other activities, so isuggest you to go in mountains like Kashmir or Himachal, where you find moderate temperature which means neither hot nor cold. Believe me, you will enjoy the trip to Kashmir or Himachal because you belong to Delhi which is quite hot in summer so you will enjoy these place aloy.

However, there might be some disadvantages likes low oxygen or no internet connections but you will manage it I know. But i suggest you to take me with you for camp and pay my bills so that i will save my money, just kidding. Actually i belong to Kashmir so it will be benefical for you.

I would like to join you in this trip and we both will enjoy it.

Warm regards.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you explain that the cooler mountain climate would be appealing after a hot Delhi summer, mention low oxygen and limited internet, and clearly say you would like to join the trip. The advice is relevant and your friendly tone suits a letter to a friend. However, some points are only briefly developed. For example, you could explain how the scenery or outdoor activities might make the holiday enjoyable, and give practical advice for dealing with the disadvantages. The comment about your friend paying your bills is clearly presented as a joke, but it briefly distracts from the advice. Develop the reasons and drawbacks a little more fully to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall sequence: it introduces the camping advice, gives reasons to go, mentions disadvantages, and ends by confirming that you would join. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking words such as “However” and “Actually” guide the reader. Some connections are less smooth or precise. For instance, “As summers are quite good for campins and other activities, so…” combines two linking patterns, while “But I suggest you to take me with you” shifts abruptly from disadvantages to a joke. The final invitation is also repeated after this. Use simpler, more direct transitions and connect each paragraph’s ideas more clearly to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main advice, including relevant terms such as “moderate temperature,” “low oxygen,” and “internet connections.” The place names and reference to Delhi also make the recommendation specific. However, the range is limited and several spelling, word-form, or collocation errors make the writing less natural, including “campins,” “aloy,” “benefical,” and “disadvantages likes.” Some phrases are also imprecise: “enjoy these place” and “good for camp” do not express the ideas naturally. Check spelling carefully and learn common combinations such as “go camping,” “enjoy the scenery,” and “limited internet access.” This would make your advice clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including the explanation beginning “because you belong to Delhi” and the clause describing the temperature. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction and agreement. For example, “As summers are quite good for campins and other activities, so…” uses an unnecessary second linker, and “you will enjoy these place” has a plural agreement problem. In “you to go in mountains,” the article and preposition pattern also needs attention. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, particularly with “i” and the long sentence beginning “However.” Practise building accurate sentences with one clear linking structure at a time.
