Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sam,

I hope this letter finds you well. I have heard you would like to go on camping this summer holiday for the first time. Drawing from my experience, i would like to offer you some advice.

Camping is the best holiday activity to do in holidays, i believe. You can learn various of things from camping. For example, survival experience, life saving skills and you can explore nature fully. In addtion, you can spend some quite with nature from busy and hactic life.

However, on the other hand, camping has some drawbacks as well. To elaborate with, you need to be careful with wild animal at night for example bear and wild cat. Also be mindful with insects and snakes while camping. Do not eat any wild mashrooms or wild fruits which you are not aware with.

I might join you in this plan, i am not fully sure about that because my employer has not approve my leave yet.

I hope you concider my these suggestions for your benefit.

Best wishes,

Sarah

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you explain that camping offers survival skills and contact with nature, mention risks from animals, insects and unsafe food, and say you might join Sam if your leave is approved. The advice is relevant and the letter’s friendly purpose is clear. However, the reasons your friend would enjoy the trip are mostly listed rather than explained, and the disadvantages focus mainly on safety without describing how these might affect the holiday. Your willingness to go is also qualified but not developed beyond the employer’s decision. Add a little explanation or a practical example for each point to make the ideas more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a paragraph about benefits, one about drawbacks, and a closing statement. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “For example,” “In addition,” and “However” help connect the ideas. This shows sound organisation and some effective use of cohesive devices. At times, though, the linking feels mechanical or repetitive: “However, on the other hand” uses two contrasting signals together, while “To elaborate with” does not connect the example naturally. Use simpler, accurate transitions and make the relationship between each example and its main point explicit to create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “survival experience,” “life saving skills,” “wild animal,” and “insects and snakes.” These choices make the subject clear, and you attempt more specific language rather than relying only on basic terms. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “addtion,” “hactic,” “mashrooms,” and “concider.” Some combinations are also unnatural, including “spend some quite with nature” and “various of things.” Aim to learn vocabulary in natural phrases and check spelling carefully. More precise expressions for the benefits and practical challenges of camping would make the advice sound more fluent and assured.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including “I might join you in this plan, I am not fully sure about that because my employer has not approve my leave yet.” The main ideas remain understandable, and the letter includes attempts to explain and qualify points. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “I” should be capitalised, “you would like to go on camping” needs a more suitable construction, and “my employer has not approve” requires the correct verb form. There are also sentence-boundary problems where a comma joins complete clauses, as in the sentence about joining the trip. Review verb forms, sentence boundaries, and article/plural patterns while retaining your varied sentence lengths.
