Student answer (Band 6.5)
Hi Nik,
It has been a long time since we met, let's hangout when you are in town next.
I heard from Sanya that you are planning to go on a camping holiday and you were seeking some advice. To begin with, it is the best thing that you can gift yourself. I have known you from childhood, you have always been the person that anyone and everyone would like to have on his team, no matter what the game is. Considering you are an outdoor enthusiast, it is hard to believe you haven't been on a camping holiday before. Neverthless, I feel you will love the experience.
The campsite you choose will make a big difference. Always choose an area which is far from the city, either on a top of a hill or near a lake. It is lovely to experience the stars at night, and the silence that speaks to you will give you a new perspective. The food you will cook with your friends and the time you will spend doing nothing are the things i feel you will enjoy the most. You will be surrounded by raw nature and you would start appreciat it more that ever before.
While it will be a exhilirating expereince, there are few things that you will have to be mindful of. Campsites are usually not equipped with general facilities that we are used to. Like the restrooms and well kitchen is a luxury. Also, you have to be careful that you are not out there all the time as there is always a danger of wildlife encroaching your space.
Having said that it is expereince for a lifetime. I would have loved to join you but I am occupied with my office work. Let's do this again this summer as I am planning one. Do let me know I will reserve a slot for you.
Next time you visit let's fill up on your favorite drink. Have a lovely holiday.
Best wishes,
Sushant Barthwal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you explain why Nik may enjoy nature, stargazing and cooking with friends, mention limited facilities and wildlife, and say you would like to join but cannot because of work. The advice is relevant and your friendly tone suits a letter to a friend. Supporting details such as choosing a campsite near a lake help extend the ideas. However, some claims remain broad—for example, “it is the best thing that you can gift yourself”—and the disadvantages could be explained more specifically, such as how to prepare for limited facilities or wildlife. The invitation to camp together later is a useful personal detail, though the timing could be made clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall shape, moving from the greeting and personal opening to enjoyment, disadvantages and a closing invitation. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the main points, and transitions such as “To begin with,” “While,” and “Having said that” signal shifts in the discussion. This gives the response a coherent progression. At times, however, links between ideas are abrupt or the reference is unclear: “Having said that it is experience for a lifetime” does not clearly connect the disadvantages to the conclusion, and “Let's do this again this summer as I am planning one” leaves the plan ambiguous. Use more precise linking and refer clearly to the camping trip or a future trip.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a friendly advice letter, including expressive phrases such as “outdoor enthusiast,” “raw nature,” and “wildlife encroaching your space.” These choices help convey enthusiasm and give the letter a personal voice. There are also attempts at vivid language, such as “the silence that speaks to you,” although some phrasing is imprecise or unnatural, including “gift yourself” and “the restrooms and well kitchen is a luxury.” Spelling errors such as “Neverthless,” “appreciat,” and “exhilirating” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; precise everyday vocabulary will be more effective than phrases that sound poetic but unclear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional and subordinate clauses: “The campsite you choose will make a big difference” and “Considering you are an outdoor enthusiast…” The message remains understandable throughout, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, the opening joins two independent clauses with a comma in “It has been a long time since we met, let's hangout…,” and “there are few things” needs an article. In “the restrooms and well kitchen is a luxury,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the sentence structure is incomplete. Review punctuation between full clauses, articles, and agreement, and proofread sentence boundaries to improve control.
