Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Amber,

How are you? It's been a while since we spoke.I heard about your plans for a camping holiday.I am writing some advice from my experience that gonna help you along your journey.

Firstly, I believe you will going to love the camping holiday as the campsites have breathtaking scenic views with serene environment.Furthermore, it helps you unwind and provide some peaceful time away from the hectic life.

What's more, as it's your firsts camping holiday you would face some difficulty regarding water. It is conaminated and has a bad odour so i would advice you to take plenty of water with you.One downside i would like to inform you is the animal dump along the hiking trail that makes your journey quite awful but the view from top of the mountain outweigh this.

Moreover, I am planning my trip this summer for camping at Shogran Valley. If you wanna come with me i would be more than happy to guide you through the trip.

Write me soon.

Lots of love,

Fareah.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points in the task: you explain that Amber may enjoy the scenery and peaceful break, mention difficulties with water and animal waste, and clearly invite her to join your trip to Shogran Valley. The friendly tone and closing suit a letter to a friend. The reasons are relevant, but some are less fully developed than others: for example, the water concern is asserted without explaining how it might affect the trip, while the scenic views and chance to unwind are more clearly linked to enjoyment. The invitation makes your willingness to go clear, though a little more detail about what you plan to do together would make the ideas more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall progression, moving from an opening and advice to disadvantages and then your invitation. Paragraphing helps separate the main points, and linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore,” and “Moreover” guide the reader. This gives the response a coherent structure, although the transitions can feel mechanical because several points are introduced with formulaic connectors. The shift from water difficulties to animal waste in the same paragraph is understandable but could be smoother, and “this” in “the view from top of the mountain outweigh this” is not fully clear. Grouping each main idea more distinctly and using a few more natural links would improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some effective descriptive language, including “breathtaking scenic views,” “serene environment,” and “hectic life,” which helps convey why camping could appeal to Amber. The vocabulary is adequate for the topic, but noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems sometimes make the message less natural. For instance, “animal dump” is an awkward way to describe animal waste, and “the view from top of the mountain outweigh this” uses “outweigh” imprecisely. There are also spelling errors such as “conaminated” and “advice” where the verb “advise” is needed. More accurate everyday expressions would make your advice clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “as” and a conditional invitation beginning “If you wanna come with me.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. Examples include “I believe you will going to love,” which combines two future forms, and “it helps you unwind and provide,” where the verb does not agree with its subject. Missing spaces after sentence punctuation and inconsistent capitalisation also affect accuracy. Aim to check verb forms and agreement, and use a consistent range of sentence patterns; this would make the letter more controlled while preserving its friendly tone.
