Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Raj,

I hope this letter finds you in radiant health and the best of spirits. I was excited when I saw your letter. I think it is a great idea that you are thinking of going on a camp this summer, everyone should experience this once in a life.

I believe, it will be the best adventurous trip for you. As long as I remember, you love exploring new places and things. This might be the excellent opportunity for you.You can learn so many new things in the camp like cooking etc.

However, there are repercussions of this as well. There are high chances of getting ill, injuries and diseases. Mostly, camp sites are always in the woods and jungle area, because of that there are possibilities of insect bites and many more. Please, do not forget to take medicines and spray.

I am very happy that you asked me to join for this camp. Even though I have vacation, I will not be able to acompany you. I am starting internship from next month.Thank you so much for invitation and I feel sorry that I will miss this chance. Send me the photos of the trip.

Yours lovingly,

Saumil Panchal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points in the prompt: you explain that your friend enjoys exploring and could learn practical skills, mention health and safety risks, and clearly say you cannot join because of your internship. The friendly opening and closing also suit a personal letter. The reasons for enjoying the trip are relevant, but they are only briefly developed; for example, “learn so many new things” could be supported with specific camping activities or experiences. The disadvantages are clearer, though “getting ill, injuries and diseases” is broad and could be made more precise. Your response covers the task well overall, with some ideas less fully explained than others; adding a little more specific support would make the advice more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the idea, explain its attractions, discuss drawbacks, and finish by responding to the invitation. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and transitions such as “However” and “Even though” show the relationships between ideas. Some links are less smooth or precise, however. For instance, “As long as I remember” does not clearly introduce your knowledge of Raj’s interests, and the sentence about camps being in woods and the risk of insect bites runs together without clear punctuation. The final paragraph also moves quickly from declining to thanking and requesting photos. More precise referencing and smoother links between supporting details would strengthen the progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a friendly letter and attempt some less common expressions, including “radiant health,” “repercussions,” and “opportunity.” The meaning is generally clear, and the camping-related vocabulary helps address the topic. However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise: “going on a camp” would usually be “going camping” or “going on a camping trip,” while “in the woods and jungle area” is awkward and repetitive. “Radiant health” and “best of spirits” also sound overly formal for a letter to a friend. There are spelling errors such as “accompany,” and some phrases do not collocate naturally. Aim for accurate, natural expressions rather than ornate wording, while retaining the useful range you are attempting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “Even though I have vacation, I will not be able to…” and “As long as I remember…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are noticeable. For example, “I believe, it is” has an unnecessary comma, “you are thinking of going on a camp” has an awkward grammatical pattern, and “I will not be able to accompany you” needs the infinitive marker after “able.” In “Even though I have vacation,” an article is needed before “vacation.” Several sentences also run together, particularly around “many more.Please.” Review articles, verb patterns, and sentence boundaries, then proofread for commas and spaces. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
