Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Raj,

I hope everything is going great with you. I am so happy to hear that you want to go for camping holidays in june vacations.

Going for holidays is definitely beneficial for you as it would help you in getting a break from your hectic schdeule. Besides this, you not only can get an opportunity to spend a quality time with your family but also relax in the natural environment. No doubt, camping is more likely to give unique experience that one would not attain while visiting busiest and noisy tourists places.

On the other hand, there are some downsides of this activity. The first one is the lack of security and safety because staying in a camp for few days does not provide us any surity of safety that one can have while staying at a hotel. Second is the unpredictable weather which can cast an adverse effect on your health.

I wish I could join you, however my kids exams will be going on ijn this moth due to which I would be unable to go with you. Nevertheless, we will make a plan to go there next year.

Overall, although there may be some concerns such as camping does not provide a secure place and weather conditions can be harsh but it is not necessarly, I believe that you are going to enjoy there thanks to peaceful surroundings away from the hustle and bustle of the world.

Waiting to hear from you soom after your vacations.

Kind regards,

Manpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points in the task: you explain that camping offers a break from a hectic schedule and time in nature, mention safety and weather concerns, and clearly say you cannot join this summer because of your children’s exams. The friendly opening and closing also suit a letter to a friend. Your reasons are relevant, but some are expressed broadly—for example, the benefits of spending time with family are not linked specifically to Raj’s interests, and the disadvantages could be made more concrete with a brief example or practical advice. The final paragraph repeats the concerns and conclusion rather than adding much support. Develop these points with a little more personal detail to make the response more fully convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the topic, discuss benefits, present disadvantages, explain why you cannot join, and close warmly. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and signposts such as “Besides this,” “On the other hand,” and “Nevertheless” make the relationships between ideas clear. Some linking is a little mechanical, particularly the repeated use of explicit transitions, and the final “Overall” paragraph largely restates points already made. The sentence beginning “although there may be some concerns” is also difficult to follow because several ideas are joined together. Aim for more natural links between points and avoid repeating the same conclusion; this would make the progression feel smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “hectic schedule,” “natural environment,” “unpredictable weather,” and “hustle and bustle.” These choices help convey the benefits and drawbacks clearly. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “camping holidays,” “quality a time,” “tourists places,” and “surity of safety.” There are also spelling errors, including “schdeule,” “necessarly,” and “soom,” which reduce the overall accuracy of the vocabulary. Choose more natural combinations and check spelling carefully. For example, “a camping holiday,” “quality time,” and “tourist destinations” would express your ideas more idiomatically.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “I wish I could join you, however…” and the clause beginning “because staying in a camp…”. Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “you not only can get” has awkward word order, while “spend a quality time” uses an unnecessary article. In “although there may be some concerns … but,” the conjunctions are not used in a compatible structure; use “although” without “but,” or use “there may be concerns, but…”. The long final sentence also needs clearer punctuation and structure. Review articles, word order, and sentence boundaries to improve accuracy while retaining your range of sentence types.
