Student answer (Band 6.0)

Crime shows and stories are gaining popularity in today's modern world. I firmly believe that people are interested because of entertainment and to be aware about the criminal activities. However, too much fictional stories can influence a good person to be a criminal. This essay will further explain the reasons.

The first and foremost reason is that it provides entertainment. Most people, particularly aged 40 and above, who are a bit old-fashioned do not show much interest to use mobile phones. These people spend their spare time either by reading crime stories or watching dramas. Individuals find it both engaging and entertaining, as those serials create suspense and curiosity in person's mind about what is going to happen next. Secondly, some people watch such episodes for being aware about the criminal activities taking place around them. They can get an idea how criminals are attacking, so they can take safety measures beforehand. For instance, people watch shows like, Crime Patrol, and learn how to be safe from dangerous criminals.

From my persepective, people can gain knowledge regarding how crime takes place and how can it be handled. In addition to that, everyone should be aware about the criminal activities and learn to cope such situations from those articles. There should be a strike balance between watching such shows.

Therefore, famous shows can be a source of fun and knowledge, but only when watched or read in a limit. Spending too much time in such storyline and fictional stories can sometimes hamper negatively, changing an honest person to serious criminal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the prompt: entertainment and learning about crime are offered as reasons for popularity, and you give a qualified opinion that these programmes can be useful but excessive exposure may have negative effects. The example of Crime Patrol supports the safety-awareness point. However, the reasons and your opinion are not developed equally. The claim that older people avoid mobile phones is a narrow generalisation and is not clearly connected to why crime fiction itself appeals to them. Your concern that fictional stories could turn an honest person into a criminal is also asserted rather than explained or supported. Develop these points with clearer reasoning or a specific example, and make your overall position more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining two reasons, a paragraph giving your view, and a concluding summary. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Therefore” help readers follow the main progression, and the Crime Patrol example is placed appropriately. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, the progression is not consistently smooth: the discussion of older people and mobile phones interrupts the explanation of entertainment, while the opinion paragraph repeats the awareness point before introducing the need for balance. The final sentence also repeats the concern about harmful influence. Group related ideas more tightly and use clearer links between reasons, opinion, and conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including “suspense,” “curiosity,” “safety measures,” and “criminal activities,” and the reader can understand your main points. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “cope such situations” and “strike balance,” but these are not natural or complete collocations. Other choices, including “a bit old-fashioned,” “famous shows,” and “hamper negatively,” are imprecise or awkward in this context. Spelling errors such as “persepective” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent communication, but more precise, natural phrasing would strengthen the response. Build topic vocabulary around motives for viewing, such as suspense, investigation, and public awareness, and check collocations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “people … who are a bit old-fashioned” and a reason clause beginning “as those serials create suspense.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “aware about” needs a different preposition, “in person's mind” needs an article or plural form, and “how can it be handled” has question word order inside an indirect statement. The sentence “There should be a strike balance” is also structurally incomplete, and “changing an honest person to serious criminal” has problems with articles and sentence construction. Review articles, prepositions, and indirect-question word order, then proofread longer sentences to ensure each has a complete, accurate structure.
