Student answer (Band 6.0)

These days, Crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more popular; there are several reasons behind this, which I will discuss in the upcoming paragraphs along with my Opinion and conclusion. My opinion is that these dramas are good because they show fictional stories and create suspense in us about what is going to happen next.

The first and Foremost reason for this is that most TV crime dramas entertain individuals through their actions and the horrible stories in the drama. In this way people get more interacted with that dramas and watching them for long time. For example, if a drama shows a crime in it, the police have to find the criminal. In this way, they create more suspense and interest of individuals towards the drama shows.

Secondly, it also increases people's knowledge about the crime and justice systems, as they are showing how police collect all the data related to a case and find the criminal easily. For example, I saw in one drama how the police collected all the information about the criminal through CCTV cameras and fingerprints, which gives us good knowledge about how to find things easily to give justice to someone.

In my opinion, these dramas are a very good source of information and entertainment, as well as peeople know that they are fictonal stories. I personally think they are useful as they develop thinking skills and encourage us to solve mysteries. However, watching too much violent drama shows can have negative impact on young children.

In conclusion, Crime novels and TV crime dramas are a good source of information and entertainment through which people learn about various things about crime and violence. But it also have some side effects on young individuals if they watch them too much.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both questions: it gives reasons for the popularity of crime stories—entertainment, suspense and learning about police work—and states a positive opinion, while acknowledging possible effects on children. The position is clear, especially in “these dramas are a very good source of information and entertainment.” The examples about a police investigation and CCTV cameras help illustrate the points. However, the explanation of why audiences find crime fiction appealing is somewhat repetitive, and the claim that viewers learn how to find criminals “easily” is not fully explained or qualified. The opinion is also developed less fully than the reasons: the brief concern about children could be explained with a specific effect or example. More precise development of these ideas would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs explaining popularity, a paragraph giving your opinion, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “The first,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and the examples are placed alongside the relevant points. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, the linking is rather formulaic, and the introduction’s promise to discuss the topic “in the upcoming paragraphs” is unnecessary. Some connections between ideas could be clearer; for example, the shift from learning about justice systems to the personal opinion paragraph is abrupt. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make each paragraph’s central point more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “crime and justice systems,” “CCTV cameras,” “fingerprints,” “suspense,” and “solve mysteries.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the subject beyond very basic terms. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “get more interacted with that dramas,” “find the criminal easily,” and “good source of information.” Spelling errors in “peeople” and “fictonal,” along with inconsistent capitalisation of “Crime” and “Opinion,” also reduce control. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated words such as “drama” and “good.” Proofreading spelling and choosing natural phrases will make your meaning more fluent and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, for example, “as they are showing how police collect all the data related to a case.” Most ideas remain understandable, and the use of clauses with “because,” “as,” and “if” shows some range. However, some grammatical errors recur. In “people get more interacted with that dramas,” the construction and determiner are faulty; “watching them for long time” is an incomplete continuation and lacks an article. There are also agreement errors in “it also have some side effects” and “they are showing,” where the subject and verb form need attention. Sentence boundaries and punctuation could be more controlled, particularly in the opening sentence. Review articles, agreement, and complete sentence structure while continuing to practise complex clauses.
