Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. The reasons provided—boredom with other genres and the desire to stay updated on crime rates—are somewhat superficial and lack depth. The opinion is stated but not strongly supported with personal experience or detailed reasoning. The essay structure is present, but the content remains repetitive, particularly in the conclusion, which does not add new insights. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or elaborate on the psychological appeal of suspense and mystery.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'Hence, they want some new interesting' and 'This is the another reason' show a lack of fluency in connecting ideas. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between genres and the desire for suspense is abrupt. While the essay is coherent enough to be understood, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of the sentences limit the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'vast ratio of books' (instead of 'vast number'), 'have bored to watch' (instead of 'have become bored with watching'), and 'becoming quite famous between masses' (instead of 'among the public'). The vocabulary is repetitive, and there is little attempt to use less common or idiomatic language. To improve, focus on learning collocations and more precise academic vocabulary related to media and entertainment.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are often grammatically incorrect, such as 'For instance based comedy, romantic, action etc.' and 'By watching these kinds of shows they feel not bore'. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, article usage, and word order. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. These errors are noticeable and occasionally cause the reader to pause, though they do not completely impede communication. Increasing the variety of sentence structures and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is essential.
