Student answer (Band 7.0)
In recent times, a number of individuals have shows their interest in crime related literatures, movie and TV serials. In my view, safety awareness for residents and the suspense stories that these contents create could be the potential reasons for this development. I think that criminal contents should be used mainly to educate people for crime, and there the government should make these kind of books and programs age restricted.
Criminal stories should primarily aware citizens regarding possible thread, which could be life threating such as murders and kidnapping. This is because the people have become extremely greedy for money and properties; therefore, they attempt a crime. For instance, Alex, who is my immediate next door neighbor, lose his son because he could not offer certain amount of money and a part of his farm house to his elder brother. Thus, if TV channels make shows to depict these types of stories with significant solutions then such kind of detrimental crime could be prevented. Although this is one of the main reasons why TV crime dramas are widespread among the people, suspense stories are another interest, which increases the popularity of crime novels.
Majority of younger students are highly interested in stories, which develop their excitement until the final stage. As a result, certain authors have started publishing considerable amount of books related to crimes. For example, Mr. Jane, one of the well-known fictional writer, published a book known as The Noon. The final chapter of this book revealed the whole suspense, which was hidden throughout the book. Consequently, he had to publish three additional parts with more exciting contents because a huge number of people loved it.
Even though these kinds of contents are entertaining for certain people, I believe that criminal fictions and dramas should be age restricted because some abusive contents may influence toddlers in a negative way. Thus, the primary aim for crime novels and TV crime dramas much be for educational purpose only.
In conclusion, although crime related contents may be fascinating for university graduates, I personally opine that their publication must be limited to the people of certain age, and it has to be for public awareness only.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the student's personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the appeal of suspense and the potential for public awareness. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The personal anecdote about the neighbor is a bit tangential and could be more effectively linked to the broader theme of crime drama. The position is clear throughout, though the argument that these shows should be primarily for 'educational purposes' is a narrow view that limits the exploration of why people actually consume entertainment. Overall, the task is addressed adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'As a result,' 'Consequently,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the anecdote in the second paragraph and the broader argument about TV shows is slightly disjointed. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the personal opinion, contributing to a coherent overall structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common items like 'detrimental,' 'fictional,' and 'abusive contents.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'crime related literatures' (should be 'literature'), 'shows their interest' (should be 'shown'), and 'possible thread' (likely meant 'threat'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. A wider range of topic-specific vocabulary would improve the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, such as 'individuals have shows' instead of 'have shown' and 'neighbor, lose his son' instead of 'lost his son.' Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. The control of complex structures is inconsistent, with some sentences feeling slightly forced. The errors are noticeable but rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended message.
