Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this hectic lifestyle, everyone has different ways to entertain themselves and reduce the stress. Thriller dramas and crime novels are prevailing in many countries nowadays. This essay will elucidate the reason behind the popularity of this type of content in the subsequent paragraphs and share my perspective.

To commence with, the directors and writers present the reality of society through dramas and writings. To expound, due to the fast-paced lifestyle and busy routine, people are becoming frustrated and take out the agitation through crimes. Therefore to show the reality to the society, film-makers direct real- life based movies to aware the public. To cite an example, there was a case in India in the year 2026, wife has an extra marital affair and husband got to know about it. Therefore, wife planned murder with boyfriend and killed the husband. The way they both killed the man was terrifying. One film- maker is doing proper research on this incident and planning to make film to show the consequence of this kind of thinking to the audience. Thus, people are getting awareness on these accidents through TV shows and novels.

I personal perspective is that this much thriller content is very harmful for young generation. Because young generation easily influenced by the prevailing situations. It can intellectually effect this generation, it can inculcate the wrong intentions among them and crime rated can hiked. For example, psychologists claim that sub-conscious mind quicky respond to the situation among youngsters, and they unable to find out the solution for difficult situation, so get involve in the wrong deeds. Hence, It can be very dangerous for the future of country.

To conclude, these sources of media are not only way of entertainment but also spread the awareness among people. But there should be some restrictions on this , such as children below 18 cannot buy these kinds of novels or young ones should not have access to these shows,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for popularity and a personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat uneven. The example provided regarding the Indian murder case is specific but feels slightly disconnected from the general trend of crime fiction popularity. The opinion is clear, though the argument regarding the negative impact on the youth could be more nuanced. Overall, the response covers all requirements of the task, but the depth of analysis is limited, keeping it at a solid level where the main points are clear but not fully explored.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Therefore', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences in the second paragraph is occasionally disjointed. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. The overall progression of ideas is logical, though the connection between the popularity of crime dramas and the specific example provided could be smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'elucidate', 'prevailing', and 'agitation'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'crime rated can hiked' and 'intellectually effect'. These errors do not impede communication, but they show a lack of precision. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and natural control required for a higher band score. More attention to collocations and word forms would improve the quality of expression.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the reality to the society'), subject-verb agreement ('wife has an extra marital affair'), and verb forms ('they unable to find out'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some misplaced commas and capitalization issues. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the text. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over complex structures and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical slips.
