Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. The explanation regarding why people enjoy these shows is somewhat superficial, focusing on 'solving mystery problems' and 'boosting the brain' without deeper analysis. The opinion section is also underdeveloped and slightly confusing, as the argument shifts from the educational value of crime dramas to the negative impact of peer pressure. The conclusion is brief and does not effectively summarize the main points. To improve, you should provide more detailed examples and ensure your arguments are logically linked to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'In addition to it' and 'To the conclude'. There are instances where the progression of ideas is disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition from social media habits to crime drama interest is abrupt. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical flow of the argument. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will help create a smoother, more professional flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'good', 'people', and 'things'. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'put straight eyes on the mobile phone' and 'master mind behind this'. Some spelling errors, such as 'striaght', 'espiacially', and 'satuition', also occur. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. You should focus on learning topic-specific collocations and synonyms to express your ideas more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('the crime rate get increasing'), article usage ('the crime novels'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, which hinders readability. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, such as 'When this parents can teach their children how to protect ourself'. The frequent errors in basic grammar and punctuation significantly impact the clarity of the message. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors will be essential for improvement.
