Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is said that, currently in many countries people are getting more attracted towards reading crime-based novels and watching crime shows or documentaries. In this essay, I will be elaborating the possible reasons behind this situation along with sharing my viewpoint on the crime based movies or dramas.
There are several causes behind more audience opting for reading crime books or watching criminal scenes. The most prominent reason is that, nowadays crime has become one of the major issues, which really threaten the society. As a result, people choses to watch or read crime based stories to escape themselves from getting trapped in any of these events in their lives. The another cause behind this situation is that the mostly crime based shows and dramas are based on real-life incidents, which creates more interest in viewers to know in depth about the event. For example, in present times, public always shows curiosity to watch the real life based movies as these act can help them to know the inner hided truth behind the event.
I believe crime-based movies and books are good until it is not narrated in a wrong way. If these totally focuses on spreading awareness among the individuals then it is completely a good way to help people to be updated with latest tricks of the criminals. On the contrary, if these shows or books tries to narrate the story in an inspirational way or by encouraging such events than this could be a major source for people to go in the wrong direction, which in turn will leads to increase of criminal activities rather than declining it as this resources only showed the good consequences after the event took place rather than taking strict actions like sentencing the criminal to death or life-time jail which help the audience to know that this kind of act in society is totally unbearable and unforgettable.
To conclude, although people are finding it interesting to watch or read about crime in order to make them aware or protect themselves from such incidents, still I believe if the story is not described with correct information and after implications that it could spread a negative mindset in the public, which is harmful for the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt: it identifies reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the desire for safety and the appeal of real-life incidents. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the third paragraph where the argument regarding the 'wrong way' of narration becomes circular. To reach a higher band, the student should provide more specific examples of how these shows impact society rather than relying on general statements. Overall, the position is clear and maintained throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the personal opinion. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'The most prominent reason', 'On the contrary', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'The another cause behind this situation'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, making the flow between sentences feel slightly disjointed in the third paragraph. Improving the variety and naturalness of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'prominent', 'curiosity', and 'unbearable'. There are some instances of imprecise word choice or awkward collocations, such as 'inner hided truth' (hidden truth), 'after implications' (implications), and 'escape themselves from getting trapped'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise usage. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but it lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('people choses', 'this resources only showed', 'this could be a major source... which in turn will leads to') and article usage errors. While the meaning remains clear, these frequent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency, as these are the most frequent sources of error in the text.
