Student answer (Band 6.5)

In Recent years, mystery novels and criminal investigation dramas are widely enjoyed in many countries. This trend can be attributed to several factors, such as the suspense and excitement they provide. However, in my opinion, I strongly disagree with this trend because it can have detrimental impacts on society.

There are several reasons for this trend the foremost one I shall put forward is that, the thrilling storyline keep viewers engaged until the end as they are eager to discover how the mystery solved. The another reason is that, it is very entertaining which increases the sense of curiosity to watch detective dramas. By this I mean that individuals keen to find out how the story ends. The hidden mystery fascinate person to watch crime fiction shows.

Discussing my opinion, the first reason is that, the criminal television shows have negative effects on children overall development and behaviour. For instance, after watching mystery television series about theft, robbery, murder consequently their mind also think in same manner and may leads to a wrong path. Furthermore, these criminal fiction novels can increase fear and anxiety. People may start believing that crime is more common than it really is, making them feel unsafe. Moreover, detective drama shows may desensitize viewers to violence. Watching violent scenes repeatedly can make people less sensitive to real life violence.

All in all, It can not be denied that criminal shows filled with suspense and thriller provide a full entertainment to the public. Nonetheless In my believe that this shows have negative effects on people and young generation. These shows may improve criminal activities and violences in the countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the suspenseful nature of the genre and the potential negative impact on children. However, the development is somewhat limited. The arguments regarding the negative effects are repetitive, and the explanation of why people enjoy these shows is quite basic. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced examples or deeper analysis of why these shows are so pervasive in modern culture, rather than simply stating they are 'thrilling' or 'entertaining'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'All in all'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'The another reason is that' or 'In my believe that'. Additionally, some sentences are poorly connected, leading to a slightly disjointed flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used naturally would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'criminal investigation dramas', 'desensitize', and 'detective dramas'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'the hidden mystery fascinate person' (should be 'fascinates people') and 'In my believe' (should be 'In my opinion' or 'I believe'). The range is somewhat limited, and you rely on basic descriptors. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations would help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('the thrilling storyline keep viewers', 'mystery fascinate person') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas often interrupting the flow of sentences. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article placement will help improve your accuracy.
