Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent years, the widespread of crime novels and Tv crimes dramas has garnered significant attention. Personally, I believe there are several factors that could contribute to the popularity of this trend.

To begin with the educational purpose attributed to such production. Many movie producers or entertainment industries tend to bring to our notice most a times what is happening in our environment in other to educate us and make us more security conscious through writing on story books and films. For example, one of the books I read as a teenager was what made me more conscious of my environment, it was a story where a kids from school was offered a lift and at the end they happened to be kidnappers sent by the parents enemies, this story book did not only awaken me on the evilness of people's heart but also thought me that I should not follow strangers.

In my opinion crime fiction and dramas should be encouraged by the governments as a tool to sensitize the nation and also to educate future offenders on the possible punishment that would be melted out if you are found wanted of any offense.

Additionally, producers should also put up viewers description on their production to ensure it gets to the appropriate audience.

In conclusion, a high proportion of the entertainment industries have moved majorly into the production of crime fiction and TV crime dramas. Although this is a means of education the general public on the happening on their environment. I personally believe there should be a viewers description and government should use it as a tool to inform

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's opinion. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you provide a personal example regarding the educational value of crime stories, the argument remains a bit narrow. The conclusion is incomplete, as the final sentence trails off without a clear ending. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully explored and that your conclusion provides a comprehensive summary of your main points rather than ending abruptly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'For example', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and the incomplete final sentence. The referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the educational aspect and the suggestion for government intervention could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring all sentences are complete will help improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'security conscious', 'sensitize', and 'offenders'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'widespread of crime novels' (should be 'widespread popularity'), 'melted out' (should be 'meted out'), and 'found wanted' (should be 'found guilty'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural collocations will enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('a kids from school was offered'), article usage ('the widespread of'), and sentence fragments or incomplete thoughts in the conclusion. Punctuation is generally functional, but the errors in grammar are noticeable throughout the text. Focusing on proofreading to catch basic errors and ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb will significantly improve your accuracy.
