Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this modern era, crime related dramas are having significant recognition in most of countries. In this essay, I will articulate the reasons behind this trend along with my opinion.

To commence with, watching criminal dramas is one of the entertainment resources for individuals. To elaborate on this, sources such as crime novels, crime books as well as crime shows on television is made of suspense and thriller acts, in which individuals have fascination to experience it. Further, the curiosity is one of the reasons for being watch of criminal dramas. The different kind of crimes make individual curious about its ending particularly to Younge generation. For instance, 75% of population have been interested to watch crime shows as well as crime books due to its suspense. Consequently, it not only provides entertainment, but also promotes awareness of different crimes.

On the other hand, it has negative outcome on society. To explain further, it is provoking society to involve in crime through constant exposure. As they are generating criminal figures on his mind, they are unintentionally indulging into criminal activities. For example, children are most vulnerable population as they are not able to identify values as their own. After exposing to crime shows, criminals are their role model and they want to follow them. As result of this, society is becoming unsafe as well as significant rise in number of crimes.

To conclude, although crime shows are providing entertainment and awareness to individuals, one cannot neglect its detrimental effects on society such as escalating criminal activities. Therefore, balance approach is necessary.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for popularity and your personal opinion. You have developed ideas regarding entertainment, curiosity, and the potential negative impact on society. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the claim that '75% of the population' watch these shows lacks context and feels like an unsupported generalisation. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are supported by more logical reasoning or realistic examples rather than invented statistics. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis could be improved by exploring the psychological appeal of crime fiction in more detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Further', and 'On the other hand' to signal transitions. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To explain further' or 'As result of this'. Additionally, some sentences lack smooth flow, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between 'curiosity' and 'young generation' is slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'they', 'this') is precise will help improve the overall flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'significant recognition', 'detrimental effects', and 'vulnerable population'. However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'being watch of criminal dramas' (should be 'watching') and 'generating criminal figures on his mind' (should be 'forming criminal ideas'). Some phrasing is repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'crime' and 'criminal'. To improve, focus on using more precise synonyms and collocations, and ensure that your word forms are accurate in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' Younge generation), subject-verb agreement ('shows... is made of'), and prepositional usage ('After exposing to'). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'watching criminal dramas is one of the entertainment resources'. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic errors like pluralisation and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
