IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In many countries today, crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more and more popular. Why do you think these books and TV shows are popular? What is your opinion of crime fiction and TV crime dramas?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today’s world, people have numerous sources of entertainment. In the era of fast growing scenario, many people love to read crime fiction genre books and watch movies or web series. There could be many reasons of this trend or notion which will be discussed and also, my viewpoints will be highlighted in the forthcoming paragraphs.

To initiate, people especially the younger generation like to watch or read crime related stories because they have easy access to the internet. Individuals could be more attracted to this type of genre due to increasing numbers of crimes in the society, which could further develops a possible curiosity in the people’s mind of how the crime being committed. Moreover, there could be a possibility that some people might find it interesting and unique rather than watching or reading the same genres from so many ages, for example, a romantic drama, comedy, sitcoms, and many more. For instance, subscription to web series or movies applications such as Netflix and Amazon prime. Also, they can read wide variety of e-books or novels through mobile applications like Kindle.

Furthermore, I believe that there is no harm in this trend of reading crime novels and watching serial killer documentary or crime drama. Everyone has their own interests and if someone shows interest in it then there is no great deal. In fact, it is amazing to have multiple choices for the consumers in the entertainment market. Nonetheless, It is similar to learning history lessons in class because it is taught so that history cannot be repeated. Simultaneously, people enjoy crime friction to learn something out of it and stopping themselves to engage in anything like it.

In a nutshell, the reasons why crime based books and television shows are gaining more popularity these days could be in terms of their uniqueness, curiosity to know what and how a crime is happened, and easy availability of internet.
