Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's era crime is the only one activity which is on a higher rise throughout the globe. Such a petty word but the outcomes from committing it are devastating for everyone in the society. Films, social media, web series etc. have a major contribution in shaping up a person's mind towards crime and measures taken to prevent them.

Nowadays, new content is emerging everywhere on the internet related to crime. Some are making a film on it or some prefer transmitting it into a deadly crime novel. These are relatively popular because of the rage, revenge and the way the entire plot is planned up to spice up the intensity of the story. It is good to have such different genres of entertainment in our society but at the same time we also need to notice that what an individual is perceiving in their minds especially teenagers. Many teenagers are becoming easy targets by seeing the easy money and lavish life they could get after committing the crime. For example juvenile homes in majority of the developed and developing countries holds the maximum number of prisoners below the age of 18.

They, tend to learn all these new ways to commit crimes from them easily, that is the reason why crime novels and dramas are getting popular so rapidly. Although there are some people who would want to prevent it.

In my opinion these crime novels and TV dramas should be directed to display a statuary warning before the beginning and at the front of the novels, so that when people watch or read them they will be fully aware as to what is better and worse for them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and your personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention 'rage' and 'revenge' as reasons for popularity, these points are not fully explored. The link between the popularity of these shows and the rise in juvenile crime is asserted but lacks a nuanced explanation of why audiences find these themes compelling beyond just 'easy money'. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are supported with more detailed reasoning and clearer examples that directly connect to the prompt's questions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'They, tend to learn...' is awkward, and the connection between the popularity of the shows and the concluding paragraph is abrupt. Some sentences lack clear logical links, making the flow feel disjointed at times. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') to create a smoother transition between your arguments and your personal opinion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'devastating', 'emerging', and 'juvenile homes'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'transmitting it into a deadly crime novel' and 'planned up to spice up the intensity'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding informal phrasing like 'spice up' in an academic context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('juvenile homes... holds') and punctuation errors, including unnecessary commas (e.g., 'They, tend to learn'). Additionally, some sentence constructions are slightly confusing, such as 'crime is the only one activity which is on a higher rise'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the text. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence structure.
