Student answer (Band 6.5)
Crime books and shows have been increasingly becoming popular in most countries. I believe that instant thrillers and entertainment are reasons behind it. In my view, crime fiction and TV crime shows should have age limits for their consumers.
TV crime dramas have been created to provide entertainment and thrills to viewers. Some of them are made on purpose to build suspense, which triggers viewers' curiosity. As a result it will gain more ratings and reviews from the audience and become a sensation in the nation. For example, the Bollywood movie Dhurandhar has earned around thousands of crore rupees, just using this kind of content.
In addition, writers and authors are even producing these genres of articles and books, which obtain limelight and overnight success. Once people read or watch crime-related materials, it will make them addicted. Therefore, it will rise rapidly.
In my opinion, governments have to implement a policy on age limitation for consuming crime-related content. Moreover, the censor board or whoever is handling these kinds of projects, they must provide a disclaimer regarding their programs and novels.
In conclusion, crime shows and books provide instant thrillers and challenge human imagination,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for popularity and providing an opinion. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the depth of development. The ideas, such as the mention of 'instant thrillers' and 'addiction', are introduced but not sufficiently explored or supported with detailed reasoning. The conclusion is also incomplete, trailing off mid-sentence. Because the response is 57 words short of the requirement, the development of ideas is restricted, preventing the essay from reaching a higher band score. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed examples and ensure the essay meets the minimum length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'In addition', 'Therefore', 'In conclusion'). The progression of ideas is logical, but the abrupt ending of the final sentence disrupts the overall flow and coherence of the piece. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph is fully developed and concluded before moving to the next point.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'limelight' and 'sensation', which are used appropriately. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'instant thrillers' to describe a genre. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to media and literature.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'have been increasingly becoming popular' (awkward tense usage) and 'made on purpose to build suspense' (slightly unnatural phrasing). Punctuation is generally correct, but the incomplete final sentence is a significant error. The control of grammar is sufficient to communicate ideas, but the lack of complex sentence variety and the presence of recurring errors prevent a higher score. Focus on refining your use of verb tenses and ensuring all sentences are complete.
