IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In many countries today, crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more and more popular. Why do you think these books and TV shows are popular? What is your opinion of crime fiction and TV crime dramas?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays all over the world, crime books and serials are soaring heights of popularity. It is because people wants to see or read something binge worthy. In my opinion, it is the best genre by far because I love suspense crime dramas to watch but if I has to read something, I will read romantic novels.

Firstly, these medium are famous due to catchy stories that writers fictionalize in their content. From the very first page or scene they give you a hook which is a pre climax scene mostly. Then, everybody wants to find out who the killer is. Additionally, audience is inclining towards these stories because they are bored from their monotonous lives.

In addition to that, I find crime TV dramas fascinating but I feel that crime thriller books are boring in contras. I am not that kind of person who will read hundreds of pages to find out who is the culprit behind the misdeed. I recently tried to read "I will Find you" crime thriller book from a famous author but I couldn't reach even half way. But when I saw the web series based on that book on Netflix, I watched all the episodes in one night. Because the screenplay was so engaging and all the actors played their parts outstandingly well. However, I can read romantic novels as it gives feel good vibe and I can read very tiny parts each day.

All in all, everybody has different taste and reviews of these content will be subjective all the time. If someone has gone through a tough phase in his or her life in terms of victim of crime, they will just stay away from these genre. But most of the people and including me will agree that in this decade it is very popular.
