Student answer (Band 6.5)

At present people are more interested in thriller due to rapid increase in crime fiction and TV shows and this not only happening in one country but also spreading to many more countries. In my opinion, the people behind shows and books they are just new category of interest for people to get engaged and make more money out of it but sometimes it can be dangerous too.

Firstly, In many countries people were used to read the books based on biography, anime many more. But, as human psychology if someone reads that kind of book again and again they got bored therefore many writer choose the new category to make people interested again and they found the crime fiction. According to last research in Japan people tend to read crime fiction book rather than any other category.

Secondly, TV shows are making crime drama that is sometime based on true events which makes more curiosity to people to watch that show and they also suggests to other person as well because it shows real events that is already happened and TV shows remake them with more attractively that is why people getting more interest to watch that kind of show. For example, Last year media TRP report shows that crime drama shows are getting more TRP than any other shows.

In conclusion, it is totally depends on person to person because if they consider as entertainment purpose only than there is nothing to worry about it. However, If somebody got encourage from crime novel or shows and try to follow some chapter than it could be serious matter.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation for why people enjoy these shows—citing 'human psychology' and 'boredom'—is a good start but lacks depth. The opinion section is also brief, focusing on the potential danger of imitation without fully exploring the nuance of the genre's appeal. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed examples or a more thorough analysis of why these themes resonate with modern audiences, rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'this not only happening' in the introduction). Some transitions are slightly awkward, such as 'as human psychology if someone reads...'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would enhance the logical progression of your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'crime fiction', 'biography', and 'true events'. However, there is a lack of flexibility and precision. Phrases like 'make more money out of it' or 'getting more interest' are somewhat informal and repetitive. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'media TRP report' and 'it is totally depends on person to person'. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated collocations and academic vocabulary would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many writer choose'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'that is already happened'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and capitalization. While you attempt complex sentences, they often contain errors that affect clarity. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and pluralization.
