Student answer (Band 6.5)
In this contemporary era, people are increasingly interested in crime novels and TV shows related to crime. In many countries, crime novels and TV dramas have become increasingly popular. that crime series and books have become popular day by day. I believe it is mainly possible because of authors' creativity and logical thinking, and readers' excitement. This essay will examine the associated reasons behind the popularity before presenting my opinion.
One of the main reasons behind this is the level of thrill, excitement, and suspense these novels and dramas provide to their audience. Readers think that love stories and action novels often follow similar storylines. They need something unique and new. Moreover, governments of numerous countries are regularly organize awareness campaigns for the people. In addition, Writers, Authors and Publishers use this opportunity to promote their upcoming relevant projects to television series.
Another important reason is that publishers are meeting the demands so that every novel and show can be easily available on online platforms and in bookstores. Some crime novels are based on real stories so people get connected with them easily.
As per my opinion, it is a positive development because they educate people about common criminal techniques and encourage them to take precautions. It is also popular because it helps people to understand the importance of self-defence especially in these types of challenging situations during hard hitting times.
In conclusion, popularity comes with creativity, uniqueness and easy availability. Providers in many countries understand this and follow to reach mass audience.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for popularity and a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about government awareness campaigns is not clearly linked to why crime fiction is popular, making the argument feel disjointed. The opinion section is present but lacks depth; while you mention education and self-defence, these points are not fully explored or supported with concrete examples. To improve, ensure that each reason is clearly explained and connected back to the central theme of the prompt, providing more specific illustrations to support your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by mechanical transitions. For example, the opening paragraph contains repetitive sentences and a fragmented structure that disrupts the flow. While cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'In addition' are used, they are occasionally placed awkwardly or used to connect ideas that do not logically follow one another. To reach a higher band, focus on creating smoother transitions between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that builds logically toward your conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some relevant terms such as 'contemporary era', 'suspense', and 'self-defence'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic phrasing. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'hard hitting times' or the repetitive use of 'popular'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary related to literature and media, while ensuring that your word choices are contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'governments... are regularly organize' (should be 'regularly organise') and 'As per my opinion' (a slightly unnatural collocation; 'In my opinion' is better). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence boundaries, such as the fragmented sentence in the introduction. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex sentence structures to improve accuracy.
