IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In many countries today, crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more and more popular. Why do you think these books and TV shows are popular? What is your opinion of crime fiction and TV crime dramas?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the recent years, there has been a growing trend in many nations that the crime serials and novels are becoming increasingly popular. People are more keen to watch these dramas rather than any other TV show.

First and foremost, the shows that contains crime and thriller, individuals prefer to see them, as they generate curiosity in them. In most of these dramas, there is an investigation going on, which holds the interest of spectators and makes them to think about the suspect or criminal. A good example of this is a famous Indian crime show CID, which is among the longest running TV serial. It always comes with the new stories in which CID team has to solve the cases from the clues they get on the crime scene.

In addition, in my opinion, these crime dramas and novels help the people to some extent. The public get aware of the possible crimes that could happen to them also. Moreover, they even learn to tackle the situation, if in case they face some threat or attack. For instance, in most of these dramas criminal novels, it has been told that how to escape yourself from falling into the trap and has given the information to avoid certain actions like eating from strangers. Furthermore it also demonstrates the criminal activities that happens in the rural areas, which does gets highlighted properly.

In conclusion, I believe that these types of shows and novels have the thrill and suspense to attract the people and get more spectators. However, they have their own advantages as they give exposure to the society of the possible crimes that can happen with them.
