Student answer (Band 6.5)
In today's world we see a lot of crimes happen around us. Although, there are many cases where research is not possible due to circumstances, a few of them are documented and published on the internet. We can see on Netflix these kind of shows are getting popular and number of audience find it interesting.
Firstly, Rise in technology and social media has made crime drams and fiction shows popular. Before 21st century, most of the files were restricted in countries and government only allowed family related shows which does not produce any learnings about crime. At that time, Crime novels were more famous among readers. For example, Sherlock holmes is a book from 80's where crime fiction was first spotted.
People have a tendency to like stuff that is spicy and entertaining. A lot of suspenseful and dramatic features can increase the popularity and which is why these books and show are in all time high demand. Authors try to create more and more intense books to sell. TV shows are now more explicit than before. For example, Mindhunter is well studied documentary on Netflix which became very popular due to it's research from real serial killers. Furthermore, Science shows that it increases blood pressure while watching or reading about crime related shows and the adrenaline caused by it can be a reason of increased monthly watchers.
To conclude, It is good that there is more accessibility to learn about it and get awareness from it. However, when a person starts watching more than a limit then it can have an impact to the brain which can lead to produce more crime.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for popularity and the writer's opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While the mention of 'spicy and entertaining' content and the 'adrenaline' factor are relevant, they are not fully explored. The opinion section is brief and lacks depth, particularly regarding the potential negative impact on the brain. To reach a higher band, the writer should provide more detailed explanations and perhaps a more balanced or nuanced personal perspective on the genre.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence '...which is why these books and show are in all time high demand.' The flow between sentences could be improved to create a more natural progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. Phrases like 'stuff that is spicy' and 'number of audience' are informal or slightly unnatural. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'produce any learnings' instead of 'provide any insights'. While the writer attempts to use topic-specific terms like 'suspenseful' and 'explicit', the overall range is limited, preventing the expression of more sophisticated ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('these kind of shows', 'these books and show are') and punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary capitalization of 'Rise' and 'It' in the middle of sentences. Additionally, there are minor errors with articles and prepositions. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
