Student answer (Band 7.0)

Every year thousands of novels and TV shows hit the global entertainment industry. Among them, Crime related programs and books are increasingly becoming popular among viewers. I believe these shows are gaining more popularity because such stories creates excitement among people and they can be well aware and better prepare if such incidents happen in real life.

Movies and books are plotted in such a thrilling way that audiences are excited to watch or read them. The plot creates a range of suspense and increases the curiosity of the viewers. At times, people find such fictional works as a stress busters and help them to escape their regular routine life. Consequencely, they feel more energetic and improve their productivity. In addition, crime thriller art creates the public awareness. This help them be cautious about people and different forms of crime and better prepare them if such things occur in reality. For example, Indian Tv show name Saavdhan indai creates awareness related to public safety and frauds.

In my opinion, such programs or books can raise awareness if they are presented positively. People become aware about such incidents and better prepared to handle such situation. For instance, Programs related to online frauds can help people to be cautious about online platforms especially elderly people. However, many criminals may use the same technique to commit a crime. Culprits often accept they were inspired by specific novels and committed the crime. Therefore, such programs can act as two-edged sword and it is equally important to be careful and nonetheless viewers discretion is strongly advised before viewing such programs.

In conclusion, crime related books and dramas are attracting more viewers because it brings thrill to regular routine life and create awareness. In my perspective, while such programs can have positive if information provided in impactful way, some criminals take such art form as a source of inspiration to crime. So, it is important to take such program lightly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: it explains the popularity of crime fiction and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the 'thrill' factor and the 'educational' aspect of crime dramas. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the point about awareness is supported by an example, the discussion on the negative influence of crime dramas is a bit brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' behind these points with more depth. The position is clear throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes your stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'Consequencely' (which is also a spelling error). The flow between sentences is generally good, but the referencing could be smoother in places. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'entertainment industry', 'public awareness', and 'two-edged sword'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'Consequencely' instead of 'Consequently' and 'viewers discretion' instead of 'viewer discretion'. While you attempt some less common vocabulary, the precision is occasionally lacking. The range is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but more sophisticated collocations would help elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('stories creates', 'This help them') and missing articles ('in real life', 'in reality'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some minor slips. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
