Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development is limited. The ideas regarding why crime dramas are popular are somewhat repetitive, focusing primarily on 'awareness' and 'safety'. The argument is underdeveloped, and the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the depth of the response. The position is stated but lacks the necessary elaboration and supporting examples required for a higher band. To improve, you should expand on your points with more specific examples and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'To sum up'), they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between 'crime' and 'self-protection' is not fully explained. The paragraphing is present but does not always effectively group related ideas. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'neoteric world' and 'ratio of the crime'. Spelling errors like 'awarnes' and 'modren' also detract from the quality of the writing. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning collocations (e.g., 'crime rates' instead of 'ratio of the crime') and using more precise terminology related to the topic of media and social issues.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'why this are the famous'), article usage, and sentence fragments. Punctuation is also inconsistent, which occasionally makes the text difficult to follow. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect verb tenses.
