Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 124 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the introduction attempts to outline the discussion, the body paragraph is underdeveloped and fails to fully explore the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction or provide a clear personal opinion as requested by the prompt. The ideas are presented in a very limited manner, and the response stops abruptly before addressing the second part of the question regarding the writer's opinion. This significant under-length and lack of development severely limit the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into two short paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is weak due to the lack of content. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and sometimes incorrect way, such as the phrase 'First and Foremost reason is proving awareness'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall structure is insufficient to demonstrate a logical flow of argument. While there is a basic attempt at paragraphing, the lack of development makes it difficult to assess the coherence of the response effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with several errors in word choice and collocation. For example, 'on high peak level' is an unnatural expression, and 'booklets' is an inappropriate term for crime novels. There are also frequent spelling errors, such as 'Moderen', 'coomon', 'Evereywhere', and 'countires'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student struggles to use words accurately to convey their intended meaning. To improve, the student needs to focus on learning more precise terminology related to media and social issues and pay closer attention to spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('crimes which are very coomon'), article usage, and sentence structure. The student relies on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty, such as 'crimes are happening todays'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary capital letters used throughout the text. The lack of grammatical control is evident, and the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors.
