Student answer (Band 6.5)

TV shows and dramas has a great impact on any society. These shows, novels and books can transform society into a heaven and a hell at the same time. In recent era the interest of generation is moving more towards detective novels, books, crime stories and dramas.

This change in choice is diverting our minds in some other directions. I personally thinks that this transition in taste has both good and bad sides.

If we talk about the positive side of the picture, these shows are raising awareness in society on possibilities of being trapped by someone or something and on the same page they are telling you the ways to deal with these situations. Recently a TV drama on a Pakistani Channel named Case number 9 clearly guides the females to deal with rape cases and how to handle this situation, this drama truly gives an amazing message on a very common issue in today,s society.

But if we look at the other side of the coin, these TV shows, crime shows, novels are also playing a part in negatively impacting the society. These type of stories are diverting the innocent minds of teenagers towards new ideas of being criminal. A very popular series Money heist is a perfect illustration of giving detective ideas on bank robbery.

It is a psychological fact that human brain starts acting the way it likes the things. If a person likes to watch crime dramas. He automatically try to adopt those acts in his life.

In my opinion TV shows, novels, books should be used for positive purpose and should be censured before reaching general public. In this way we utilised these shows to raise awareness rather than mere distraction.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: it explains the popularity of crime dramas and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the educational potential of dramas versus the risk of negative influence on teenagers. However, the development is somewhat limited; the points are introduced but not fully explored with depth. For instance, the argument regarding 'Money Heist' is a good example, but the explanation of the psychological impact remains superficial. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your reasoning with more nuanced analysis and perhaps a broader perspective on why these genres are inherently appealing to human nature.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for opposing views, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'If we talk about the positive side' and 'But if we look at the other side of the coin', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, which helps the overall readability of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'detective novels', 'psychological fact', and 'censured'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'transform society into a heaven and a hell' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'new ideas of being criminal'. The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Expanding your range of collocations and using more sophisticated synonyms would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'TV shows and dramas has', 'I personally thinks') and punctuation (e.g., 'today,s'). There are also some issues with article usage and sentence fragments. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and punctuation errors would significantly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
