IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In many countries today, crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more and more popular. Why do you think these books and TV shows are popular? What is your opinion of crime fiction and TV crime dramas?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Most of the nations are interested in watching crime novels and TV crime dramas. I believe that most people like thrillers and suspense, which increases their interest in watching and reading crime novels and dramas. I will explain the possible reasons in the following paragraphs.

There are several reasons that contribute to the popularity of these books and shows. Firstly, these stories attract audiences to engage with every part because of their suspense; people are likely to know what will happen next. Secondly, they want to predict the ending that engages them till the last. They love to follow how the detectives solve the cases. A good example of this is when a detective finds the same culprit they were assuming; it gives them instant gratification.

Moving forward, these kinds of crime stories are also aware of them. By watching or reading, they can see that they should not blindly believe everyone, what the possible causes of their actions are, and how they can get rid of those situations. Moreover, detective series are widely watched because they help viewers connect with the investigations underway. For instance, in India, there is a show named Crime Patrol, which always gives awareness and shows the crimes of every part of the country, and ultimately, the solution.

To conclude, the audience always likes to connect emotionally with the victims, enjoys unexpected twists, and identifies with the investigators as they solve the mysteries. From my perspective, these are the possible reasons that encourage audiences to watch or read the crime series on the basis of their interests. They finds satisfied when the culprits get punishments for what they did.
