Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay addresses both parts of the prompt—explaining the popularity of crime fiction and providing a personal opinion—the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence. The claim that crime novels cause 'brain injuries' is an unsupported generalization that lacks logical grounding. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more realistic examples and ensure the essay reaches the required length to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'because of that' and 'as far as I concern'. The flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed, and the final paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the overall coherence of the piece. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph transitions smoothly into the next with clear logical progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and contains frequent spelling errors, such as 'contamprory', 'well-know', 'magzine', and 'pollular'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'wrecks negetive impact' instead of 'has a negative impact' and 'metal disorder' instead of 'mental disorder'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision and the high frequency of errors in basic vocabulary prevent a higher score. You should focus on learning the correct spelling of common words and practicing collocations to improve your range and accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('novels and TV dramas plays'), incorrect preposition usage ('As per as I concern'), and errors in tense and article usage. While some complex structures are attempted, they are often faulty, which can cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
