Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this contemporary era, since the significant raised in the inflation, the crime rate has been consistently proliferating globally. While it is being believed that currently people are more found to be influenced by crime related books and television shows. The reasons behind this trend will be elucidated in further paragraphs alongside my view on crime TV shows and materials.

To commence, with the burgeoning number of crimes have been committed by juveniles, parents are fostered to watch or read the shows or magazines which involves illegal activities. In order to, protect their son or daughter from crime and impart them to be not part of these activities in future such as: looting, bullying, and raping. Apart from this, one has the curiosity to follow this stories because the crime shows broadcast the omnipresent modus-operandi which is handy to challenge their mind while showing dramas on TV. On the other hand, media industry always excited to cover this scenes to maintain high TRP for their channels therefore this also gives pace to popularity of crime shows.

Even though, it is in demand but it will bring some detrimental effects into someone's life. For instance, better surrounding and upbringing never welcome negative thoughts to child's mind. However, these content of crime may participate them in crime as children are curious to do something unique. Another perspective is, to get more TRP broadcasters and printing industries are not allowed to encourage these shows when they have far better options to display such as: new invention globally, education system changes, different tourist places. Last but not least, crime content circulates negativity around the community and contributes to make areas unsafe.

To conclude, after analysing such aspects of crime TV shows and novels, there should be severe rules imposed on releasing crime related content by governments to their regions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding why parents watch these shows to protect their children is a bit confusing and lacks logical clarity. The argument about 'TRP' (Television Rating Point) is relevant but could be better explained for a general audience. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting arguments would benefit from more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion provides a clear summary of the writer's stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence', 'Apart from this', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In order to, protect their son or daughter'. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack smooth flow, which occasionally disrupts the logical progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, which is a positive feature.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with attempts to use topic-specific language like 'proliferating', 'burgeoning', 'omnipresent', and 'modus-operandi'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'significant raised in the inflation', 'people are more found to be influenced', and 'participate them in crime'. These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly unclear. To improve, the student should focus on using collocations more accurately and ensuring that words are used in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('crime shows broadcast... which is handy to challenge their mind'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction ('since the significant raised in the inflation'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of colons and commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. A greater focus on basic sentence structure and proofreading for grammatical accuracy is recommended.
