IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In many countries today, crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more and more popular. Why do you think these books and TV shows are popular? What is your opinion of crime fiction and TV crime dramas?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In Today's world, people loves to read and watch crime novels & digital crime dramas. They are becoming more popular among these days. There are a lot of things that individuals consider while reading and watching crime novels and web series. According to me so many reasons why these are very famous and I have both negative and positive viewpoints on this. Today in this essay i would give my opinion on TV dramas and crime fiction novels.

In this era, Novels and dramas related to crime are very popular among the people because they love to see and read crime action movies. As these novels are written in detailed viewpoint and they are perfectly explained about a scene. Some humans prefers to watch crime fiction movies as their interest in watching crime scenes. Moreover, by watching these crime fiction scenes they get to know about life circumstances and how to deal them in difficulties. They also learns about the punishments given doing crimes.

However, by reading and seeing these kinds of novels, one get bad effect on mindset. People also get encourage from these novels and they starts committing crime in real life. For example, in India 46% of young children starts doing small crimes in schools by fighting with their classmates. Bigger crimes starts from small conflicts and they take place for murders. Furthermore, crime scenes also puts negative impression on small children and they learn bad things by reading these novels. Also they get to know about different ways to do crime and they implement them in their day to day life.

In conclusion, I would say that watching crime fiction movies put bad as well as good impression on people as they get to know about dealing with crime in difficult situations and on the other side they get manipulated from these crime movies.

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'bad effect', 'good impression', and 'bad things'. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'digital crime dramas' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'get manipulated from these crime movies'. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to media, psychology, and societal impact, and focus on using words in their correct collocations to convey your meaning more precisely.

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people loves', 'Some humans prefers', 'they starts', 'crime scenes also puts').
