Student answer (Band 6.5)

One of the pressing issues widely faced by the society is well-known crime novels and TV series are getting proliferated in the several countries. The reason being for this is that fictional books and stories allure viewers interest by creating suspense in moderation and they are always keen towards what is happening next with launch of every other episode. From my perspective, I firmly believe that people should definitely continue reading and watching it as it generates a sense of awareness and keeps an individual alert on arrival of any critical situations.

To commence with, one of the primary aspect to spike in such fictional content is due to escalation in crime ratio such as murder, theft, rape, and many more. Secondly, it is pivotal nowadays, to educate innocent children in order to make them more attentive and maintain a optimistic approach in such instances, especially for a girl child.

Moreover, in contemporary times, criminal associated dramas and stories are often beneficial in breaking the monotony of typical mundane stories like romantic, actions, sci-fi, horror by enhancing knowledge from a young age itself. To cite an example, there are plethora of fictional stories such as a famous Indian novel named A Girl on the Train, a must read story, additionally, Criminal justice and Savdhan India which is widely popular shows on OTT platform and television respectively, which needs to be watched as it vividly describes about crime and powerful laws and actions in acted against it.

To recapitulate, with the course of time generally it is anyday better that more and more people are getting inclined towards crime related events whether in form of movies, serials or by reading books. However, it is utmost essential that people especially youngsters do not get influenced by it, as it can tremendously can hamper their development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation for why these shows are popular relies on general statements about 'suspense' and 'escalation in crime ratio' without deep analysis. The opinion is stated clearly, but the supporting arguments—such as the claim that these shows educate children—could be more logically nuanced, as crime dramas often contain mature themes. The response covers all requirements, but the depth of argument is limited, placing it in the Band 6 category.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. Referencing is generally clear, though there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the discussion of crime ratios and the advice for children. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is coherent enough to follow without difficulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'proliferated', 'monotony', 'pivotal', and 'plethora'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'getting proliferated' (which is grammatically awkward) and 'in acted against it' (should be 'enacted'). While the student attempts to use less common vocabulary, these minor errors and slightly unnatural phrasings suggest a Band 6 level. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but it lacks the precision and natural control required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'The reason being for this is that...' (which is redundant), 'one of the primary aspect' (should be 'aspects'), and 'can tremendously can hamper' (double modal). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with sentence construction that occasionally require the reader to re-read for clarity. While the meaning is rarely impeded, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score for grammatical accuracy.
