Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. The argument that crime shows cause teenagers to commit crimes is a significant over-generalisation and lacks nuanced support. Furthermore, the essay falls slightly short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which impacts the depth of the response. To improve, you should expand on your arguments with more specific examples and ensure your position is clearly articulated throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'Despite the fact that, at the end of story'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. While there is an attempt at logical progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the writing feel somewhat stilted. Improving the variety and accuracy of your transition signals would significantly enhance the coherence of your work.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'human beings are always find attention' and 'make perception on their mind'. Some word choices are imprecise, and there is a reliance on basic vocabulary. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to the topic, such as 'societal influence' or 'dramatisation of criminal activity', rather than repeating simple terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many of teenager think'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'human beings are always find'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be beneficial.
