Student answer (Band 6.5)
Recently, people interest in crime shows and books have increased a lot in most of the nations. There are multiple reasons behind this and I will explain all of these in the upcoming paragraphs in my essay. I personally dislike these kinds of TV programs because they promote crime and negativity.
To begin with, there are numerous reasons behind the increasing demand and popularity of these kind of shows. Firstly, individuals love to watch something which is full with adventure and thrill. Secondly, these programs are full with suspense due to which, humans prefer to watch it till end and their all episodes. Moreover, their mysteries and the way crime is committed make them more engaging and is sufficient to get the attention of people. For example, CID show got highest TRP in 2020 as it was mostly watched TV serials in India. Masses prefer to watch this crime show over daily soaps and other as they believe it makes them about the crime that can happen in their surroundings.
I have completely negative perspective regarding these dramas. They promote negativity and violence owing to which, some people get disturb mentally after watching these shows because they disturb their mental peace. Furthermore, they give ideas to some people especially those who are mentally ill that how they can commit crime and target their victim. What is more, sometimes they depicts the ways through which offenders can hid their crime. For example, in India a lady killed her husband and packed his dead body in the blue drum and filled it with concrete. During investigation she mentioned that she got this idea from Crime petrol show which was quite famous in India. Later Indian government banned this program. They build the seed of fear and crime in individuals mind that later become the reason of mishappening in their life.
In conclusion, I would like to reiterate that it is true that audience love to watch these types of shows but makers should be aware that they should make these dramas in such a way that they will not harm the society later. They will be produced only for the purpose of entertainment and awareness not to give them ideas how to commit crime.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for popularity and your personal opinion. You have developed your ideas with relevant examples, such as the mention of the Indian show 'CID' and the specific case study regarding 'Crime Patrol'. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second body paragraph where the focus on 'negativity' and 'mental peace' could have been more nuanced. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully explored rather than just stated. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis regarding why these shows are popular could be expanded beyond just 'suspense' and 'adventure'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some of these transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, there are instances where the flow is slightly hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'due to which, humans prefer to watch it till end and their all episodes'. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'investigation', 'offenders', and 'reiterate'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'people interest in crime shows... have increased' (should be 'interest in... has increased'), 'full with adventure' (should be 'full of'), and 'get disturb mentally' (should be 'become mentally disturbed'). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit your score. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that your word forms (nouns vs. adjectives) are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('people interest... have increased'), articles ('the Indian government'), and preposition usage. Some sentences are also slightly clunky, such as 'they give ideas to some people... that how they can commit crime'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically regarding verb tenses and pluralization, to ensure your complex sentences are error-free.
