Student answer (Band 6.5)

Crime fictions and TV crime dramas are getting more and more popular in many countries. The main reason of getting popularity is because of the genre that plays a vital role in shifting towards peoples' perspective as it creates an adequate environment of suspense and action-thriller situation where readers and watchers could have the chance to either predict the ending of that novel or to guess who is the suspect in the drama. I believe, reading and watching these kind of novels and dramas surely support an individual to reshape their talent and skills; however, getting involved insufficiently could have negative sides leading to disrupt the mental health.

One of the main reasons for getting the acknowledgement from the audience of these crime fictional books and television dramas is to analyze the situation. Moreover, it is likely to visualize one's perspective how they can quickly manage the whole plot of the story and share their feedback and reviews on their social media platforms. This does not only allow to develop someone's critical thinking and problem-solving skills, but also helps them to adapt this talent in their day to day lives including their workplace. Another reason is the growing social trend by influencers. In addition to this, if a well-known artist publish their book, they sometimes read live on their YouTube channel which intimidate more buyers. Not only they get the public attention by sharing their future projects, but they also share discount codes for the first-time buyer which boosts to gain more fame and popularity amongst the individuals.

However, I believe that getting too much exposure for the readers could led to severe adverse effects. Furthermore, these impacts might arouse tension and stress between locals and the community. For instance, getting excessive amount of knowledge from imaginary world could create a barrier between the real world and the fictional world. This could damage the mental wellbeing of a person and might loose the connection from the present world.

In conclusion, I reiterate the fact that it encourages to build someone's thought process in their personal and professional career by solving the mystery. Nonetheless, it could have some negative effects on their brain of getting too much knowledge of these fictional crimes and dramas.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for popularity and a personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the appeal of suspense and the influence of social media. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The explanation of how crime fiction improves 'talent and skills' is vague and lacks concrete examples. The second body paragraph introduces the role of influencers, which is a good point, but the connection to the 'why' could be more clearly articulated. The position is clear throughout, but the arguments could be extended with more specific evidence to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition to this', and 'However' are used to link ideas. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or the referencing is slightly unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between 'analyzing the situation' and 'influencers' feels abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'suspense', 'action-thriller', and 'critical thinking'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'getting the acknowledgement' instead of 'gaining popularity' or 'intimidate more buyers' (which is incorrect; you likely meant 'attract' or 'entice'). There are also minor errors like 'loose' instead of 'lose'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'The main reason of getting popularity is because of...', 'if a well-known artist publish their book', and 'could led to'. These errors do not generally impede communication, but they are noticeable. The use of articles and prepositions is occasionally inconsistent. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will help improve your score in this criterion.
