IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In many countries today, crime novels and TV crime dramas are becoming more and more popular. Why do you think these books and TV shows are popular? What is your opinion of crime fiction and TV crime dramas?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Crime series and novels has becoming a growing concern in many countries as they are getting enormous popularity from the viewers. In this essay, I will discuss that how these books and TV shows are popular before presenting my own viewpoint.

The main reason behind their popularity is the real stories and public interest which are usually happening on the daily basis. Furthermore, authors get a story to write down in their books on the incidents which are happening in this developing world and filmmakers always make a movies on these crimes so that people should be aware about what is happening around. For instance, Delhi crime series was on real incident about the girl raped by some men in the bus and thrown away on the road naked. Consequently, publishers earn huge money when they choose topics on the real incidents as this is their profession as well as good source of income.

In my opinion, if crime fiction and TV crime dramas are achieving popularity and public attraction then these shows are making aware to the public so that they should be alert on the roads or where ever they are. Moreover, I believe that by watching movies or reading books some people are learning new methods or techniques to attempt the crime which would be determinantal to the society. For example, movies related to theft teach criminals how to steal or pick pocket easily . As a result, society is coping with numerous crime and many of the criminals are behind the bars.

In Conclusion, movies and books are the good source of entertainment to the watchers and directors are earning good amount of money by making movies on real based incidents while its a big threat to the society also when people try to imitate similar crimes by watching them.

There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'determinantal' (though this is a spelling error for 'detrimental') and 'enormous popularity'. However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation, such as 'making aware to the public' instead of 'raising public awareness' and 'real based incidents' instead of 'incidents based on real events'. The range is sufficient to communicate, but the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation limit the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
