Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that the popularity of TV crime and dramas is increased rapidly. This essay will explain why they magnetize so many people and present my opinion on this trend.

There are several reasons why crime novels and television crime dramas have become so popular. Firstly, they create a sense of suspense and curiosity , encouraging viewers and readers to keep guessing until the mystery is solved. For example, film producers use different audios and sounds to stay people connect with the story. Moreover, many of these stories are based on real-life incidents and present police investigation and forensic techniques, making them both engaging and informative. For illustrate, the majority of people in India watch great mystery show crime petrol which is based on true stories and events. As a result, people not only enjoy the entertainment but also gain a better understanding of how crimes are investigated.

In my opinion, crime fiction and television dramas are beneficial as long as they are produced responsibly. They not only provide entertainment but also encouraging people to think critically by analysing clues and predicting results. Furthermore, they also raise public awareness about criminal activities and importance of law enforcement. Consequently, people can save themselves if anyone trying to hurt them. However, excessive violence should be avoided because it may have negative influence on youngsters. For instance, young people try these activities when they are going through such a great stress or lack of money.

In conclusion, although sometimes excessive violence can have negative impact on adolescents, crime novels and TV crime dramas are providing both entertainment and awareness.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and your personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the suspenseful nature of the genre and the educational value of forensic techniques. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph provides a clear example, the second paragraph regarding your opinion is slightly underdeveloped. The argument that these shows help people 'save themselves' is a bit vague and lacks logical depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more nuanced reasoning rather than relying on general statements. Overall, the position is clear throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the connection between the popularity of crime shows and the claim that people can 'save themselves' is a bit abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, though some minor improvements in the variety of linking words would enhance the overall progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'forensic techniques', 'criminal activities', and 'law enforcement'. There are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'magnetize' (which is usually used for physical objects or literal magnets) and 'stay people connect' (which should be 'keep people connected'). Additionally, there are minor errors in collocation, such as 'great mystery show crime petrol'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise word selection to move into the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'is increased rapidly' (should be 'has increased'), 'For illustrate' (should be 'For illustration' or 'For example'), and 'also encouraging' (should be 'also encourage'). You also have some issues with article usage and verb forms, such as 'if anyone trying to hurt them' (should be 'if anyone tries'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentence structures are grammatically sound.
