Student answer (Band 6.5)
Crime novels and television crime dramas have gained immense populirity in many parts of the world over the few decades. I belive that its popularity is mainly due to thier exciting storylines and the curiosity they create. In my opinion, they are an excellent form of entertainment as long as they are reading or watching in moderation.
One of the main reason for their populirity is that they keep the audience engaged from begining to end. Most crime stories contain suspense, unexpected plot twists, and challenging mysteries that encourage viewers and readers to guess who the criminal is before the final reveal. In addition, many crime drama feature intellegent detactives and realistic investigations, which make the stories both exciting and educational. Furthermore, the availability of streaming platforms has made such content more accessable than ever allowing people to watch whenever they want.
From my perspective, Crime fiction offers several benifits. Firstly, it improves critical thinking because audiance often analyse clues and try to solve mystery themselves. Secondly, these stories can increase awareness of the legal system and the importance of justice. However, excessive exposure to violent or disturbing content may have negative impact, particularly on children and sensitive individuals. Therefore, parents should monitor what younger viewers watch, and adults should consume such content resposibly.
In conclusion, Crime novels and Tv dramas are becoming increasingly popular because they are thrilling, intellectual and easily accessible. Although they may contain violent scenes, I belive they are a positive source of entertainment and education when consume in moderation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and expressing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, such as the mention of suspense, streaming platforms, and the cognitive benefits of critical thinking. However, the development of the 'opinion' section could be slightly more nuanced to reach a higher band. The response is well-structured, and the position is consistent throughout the essay. The arguments are supported with clear explanations, meeting the requirements for a Band 7 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Furthermore', 'From my perspective', and 'However' are used effectively to link sentences and ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons for popularity from the personal opinion. While the flow is generally smooth, the transition between some ideas could be slightly more sophisticated to achieve a higher score. Overall, the coherence is clear and consistent.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and appropriate for the task. You use some good topic-specific terms like 'streaming platforms', 'critical thinking', and 'legal system'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'populirity' (popularity), 'belive' (believe), 'thier' (their), 'intellegent' (intelligent), 'detactives' (detectives), 'accessable' (accessible), 'benifits' (benefits), and 'resposibly' (responsibly). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable and slightly detract from the overall quality of the writing. Improving spelling accuracy is essential to move into the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'they are reading or watching in moderation' (should be passive: 'they are read or watched'), 'many crime drama feature' (should be 'dramas'), and 'when consume in moderation' (should be 'consumed'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur with enough frequency to limit the score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that passive voice constructions are formed correctly. The range of structures is sufficient, but greater accuracy in complex sentences is needed for a higher band.
