Student answer (Band 6.0)
These days, people are showing most amount of interest in novels presenting criminal stories, and also, TV shows focusing mainly on crime scenes. From my perspective, this increased inclination towards crime fiction is due to a couple of reasons, which includes more suspenseful drama, and entertaining storyline.
To begin with, the popularity of books and shows is rising among individuals due to numerous reasons. Firstly, a show which keeps an audience engaged throughout, is eventually more liked by people. To substantiate, people watch movies or read books to relieve their stress, therefore, their first preference would be programs or books which facilitates them to have an entertaining experience, and forget all their worries. Perhaps, viewers or readers seems to enjoy fictional stories related to criminal activities, which are usually filled with thrill and action.
To my mind, I firmly believe that attraction of youth and other people towards movies or novels describing certain criminal stories is a waste of money and time, as ultimately audience is not learning anything from such shows. Unlike other books or movies, which describes a life-story of some famous leader instils useful values in people, these fictional drama is considerably holds no value, rather than entertainment. For instance, many real-life crimes are reported to have been influenced by certain TV shows. Thus, higher addiction to such drama could prove to be dangerous to certain extent.
In conclusion, although these fictional books and shows are quite entertaining, and undoubtedly, help viewers to spend some fabulous time, consequently enabling them to rewire their brain. This should be restricted to teenagers especially because they are highly prone to getting influenced by such fictional stories.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for popularity and your personal opinion. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While you provide reasons for popularity (suspense and stress relief), the explanation is a bit repetitive. Your opinion is clearly stated, but the argument that these shows are a 'waste of time' is a broad generalization that lacks nuanced support. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended with more specific examples or logical depth. The conclusion introduces a new point about teenagers that was not previously discussed in the body paragraphs, which slightly weakens the overall task focus.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'To substantiate,' and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are used incorrectly or awkwardly, such as 'consequently enabling them to rewire their brain' in the final sentence, which does not logically follow the previous clause. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear; for example, 'these fictional drama' is grammatically inconsistent with the plural noun. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'inclination,' 'substantiate,' and 'prone.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'showing most amount of interest,' 'facilitates them to have,' and 'considerably holds no value.' These errors occasionally make the text sound unnatural. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary. While the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your ideas clearly, it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'viewers or readers seems,' 'these fictional drama is') and article usage (e.g., 'the popularity of books... is rising among individuals due to numerous reasons'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some unnecessary commas, such as in 'and also, TV shows.' The errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, but they do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points.
