Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and the writer's personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. The reasons provided—mystery, suspense, and the 'real' nature of the stories—are mentioned but not fully explored or supported with specific examples. The opinion section is also somewhat superficial, focusing on general awareness versus violence. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or concrete illustrations. For instance, explaining why the 'whodunit' aspect is psychologically engaging would strengthen the first paragraph significantly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing or grammatical errors (e.g., 'In his essay, I would like to...'). The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will help improve the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'asuumption', 'exaplin', 'hapeening', 'opinnion', and 'ardous'. Additionally, some word choices are imprecise, such as 'real story show' or 'without panic'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the frequency of spelling mistakes limit the score. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to media and crime, and proofread carefully to eliminate basic spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'crimes dramas has'), article usage (e.g., 'It is irrefutable fact'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'spending too much time on watching these show may put deterimental impact'). While these errors do not completely prevent communication, they are persistent and noticeable. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that plural nouns match their verbs and that articles are used correctly before singular countable nouns.
