Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, crime novels and TV crime shows are getting extremely popular in many different part of the world. There are several reasons for its rising popularity. In my opinion, while the crime books and TV web series are brought some advantages for the nation however it also has its drawbacks.
To commence with, the first and foremost reason is that crime stories are exciting and full of suspense which make people curious to make a guess and following a clue that who is a criminal and watching how the mystery is solved. This type of storytelling engaged the population from start to end. For Instance, stories like Sherlock Holmes and Money Heist have millions of fans only because they are thrilling and unpredictable.
Another reason is that crime fiction often reflects real life issues. it may include topics such as corruption, justice or social problem. Viewers and readers can relate to these themes and think more deeply about society. It also creates awareness among youngsters about not to trust any suspicious person and not to follow social media trend just for the sake of popularity which can take them to wrong direction. These stories also show smart detectives or police officers using strategy, science and logic to solve the difficult cases. Which many people find interesting and inspiring.
In my opinion. Crime shows and books are not only entertaining but also educational. They improve our thinking skills and helping us to make right decision in our life during difficult situations. However, I believe it’s important to keep a balance. If people watch or read a lot, it might affect their view of the world making them more fearful and suspicious.
To put it in a nutshell, crime fiction and TV dramas are popular because they are exciting, thought- provoking and often connected to real life. I personally enjoy them watching, but I also believe we should enjoy them in moderation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt: it explains the popularity of crime fiction and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the suspenseful nature of the genre and its reflection of real-life social issues. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph provides good examples like 'Sherlock Holmes', the second paragraph could be further extended by explaining exactly how these stories improve thinking skills. The position is clear throughout, though the introduction is slightly repetitive in its phrasing. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'For Instance', and 'To put it in a nutshell' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with mechanical cohesion; for example, the sentence 'Which many people find interesting and inspiring' is a sentence fragment that should be connected to the previous sentence. Additionally, the transition between the benefits and drawbacks in the introduction is slightly clunky due to the use of 'while... however'.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for clear communication. You use some topic-specific terms like 'suspense', 'corruption', and 'thought-provoking'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'make a guess' (instead of 'speculate' or 'deduce') and 'take them to wrong direction' (instead of 'lead them in the wrong direction'). The range is sufficient for the task, but to reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise and sophisticated vocabulary to express complex ideas, rather than relying on simpler, more general phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'are brought some advantages' (passive voice error), 'about not to trust' (infinitive structure), and 'enjoy them watching' (incorrect verb pattern). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of full stops where commas or conjunctions would be more appropriate, such as 'In my opinion. Crime shows...'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct sentence boundaries will improve your accuracy.
