Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for popularity and your personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the explanation for popularity focuses heavily on 'suspense' without exploring other potential factors like the psychological appeal of solving puzzles or the escapism these shows provide. Similarly, the argument against crime fiction is somewhat generalized, relying on the claim that it influences minors to commit crimes without providing specific examples or a more nuanced perspective. To improve, aim to expand your points with more detailed reasoning and concrete examples to reach a higher band level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Moreover,' and 'On the other hand.' However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'Whereas, the crime dramas includes...' which does not function correctly as a transition. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'its' when referring to plural nouns like 'novels and TV shows.' Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents will strengthen the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'criminal content,' 'mystery,' and 'violent scenes.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat phrases like 'such kind of shows' and 'this kind of episodes.' There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'getting significantly popular' (should be 'becoming increasingly popular') and 'adapt this field' (should be 'adopt this behavior'). Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise adjectives and collocations would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the crime dramas includes') and incorrect article usage or pluralization (e.g., 'a huge number of audience'). There are also issues with sentence construction, such as 'the episode has always a hidden suspense,' which is awkward. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of English syntax to achieve a higher band score.
