Student answer (Band 6.0)
Crime is the most prevalent concern nowadays. Some writers are launching literature and series about fictional and actual crime stories to attract the population to draw their attention to such incidents and make them aware about such dangerous events.
First and foremost, these kind of crime contents have been noted high in rating among other publications and shows because of their way of narrating situations with emotions, actions, and dialogues with detailed back stories which holds human curiosity throughout the story. Furthermore, citizens are more likely to become alert about crime, acquire knowledge about safety helplines and learn how to escape from the danger situations to protect their selves by crime investigation shows and crime chapters. For example, reputed universities are premiering short films of cybercrime for youngsters to protect online data and safeguard them from internet frauds and scams.
Moreover, I consider this trend as a development of the entertainment industry which altered society norms about criminal theories. In former times, netizens used to scare to raise a voice against illegal actions due to reputation in the society while modern approach through depicting such offensive incidents by fictions and dramas allow public to stand confidently with a robust argument against wrong verdicts. To exemplify, in recent years many communities have raised the voice against mental and physical harassment which was one of the most sensitive topics to discuss publicly in previous time.
To conclude, crime literature and crime movies are becoming more popular for an entertainment with interesting storyline which helps individuals to broaden their horizons about national legislation to safe themselves legally and changes the perception of the crime in a society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and expressing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the educational value of crime dramas and their role in societal change. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the points are clear, the explanation of why these shows are popular could be more deeply explored beyond 'curiosity' and 'safety'. The position is consistent throughout, but some arguments, particularly regarding the 'development of the entertainment industry', could be more explicitly linked to the prompt's core question to achieve a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Furthermore', and 'Moreover' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the use of these devices is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions between sentences feel slightly abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, though some phrasing, such as 'these kind of crime contents', is slightly awkward. The progression of ideas is logical, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by varying the linking structures to sound more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use less common items like 'prevalent', 'robust', and 'legislation', which is positive. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'launching literature', 'noted high in rating', and 'safe themselves' (instead of 'safeguard' or 'protect'). These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the score as they show a lack of precision in more complex lexical areas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('these kind of crime contents have been noted'), article misuse, and awkward phrasing ('used to scare to raise a voice'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure often lacks the fluidity required for higher bands. The errors are noticeable but rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning, placing this firmly in the 6.0 range.
