Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for popularity and personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument that crime fiction helps with 'knowledge' is mentioned multiple times without specific examples or deeper analysis of why this genre specifically appeals to the human psyche. The position is clear, but the supporting points lack depth and rely on vague generalizations. To improve, you should provide more concrete reasons—such as the thrill of solving puzzles or the exploration of moral ambiguity—rather than focusing solely on general 'awareness'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'Moreover', 'To conclude'), they are occasionally used mechanically or incorrectly, such as the transition 'and also about the novels' which lacks a formal link to the previous sentence. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where 'it' is used without a clear antecedent. Improving the variety and precision of linking words would enhance the flow of your arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'good thing' and 'knowledge', and some word choices are unnatural, such as 'fast pacing world' instead of 'fast-paced world' and 'making these kind of drams' instead of 'producing these types of dramas'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'gaining some interest in crime'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'suspense', 'narrative', or 'societal fascination'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the first and fore most reason... are having') and awkward phrasing ('a actresses and actors'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentence fragments and unnecessary full stops within sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of basic sentence construction and article usage.
