Student answer (Band 5.5)
Crime novels and TV dramas are becoming increasingly popular. There are several reasons behind this trend. In my opinion, this should be beneficial for awareness and education among people, although they should not promote violence.
One main reason for their popularity is the excitement and suspense. People enjoy watching these forms of entertainment every day, just because they start guessing the upcoming story, and they make it more curious while debating with their cousins and friends. The unexpected events and stories boost their interest and focus. They try to solve the mystery before the show ends.
Another reason is that crime stories often show situations that are different from their personal life. These situations are displayed only to raise awareness and educate people about avoiding risks like life-threatening ones. They love those stories where it is most challenging to predict what is going to happen next. This left an impression of watching one after one.
In my opinion, crime fiction movies are safe and beneficial for people as it helps not only to alert or teach them but also enhance their excitement and interest in watching this entertaining stuff. They become more aware and protective in their life and start trying to avoid situations like suspenseful or criminal activities.
In conclusion, although these crime and TV dramas are very popular, but playing most important role in increasing awareness about life-saving situations. Also, it educate people to take steps in the action to deal with these types of situations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why crime dramas are popular and the writer's opinion. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, and the ideas lack depth. The essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the overall task achievement score. While the position is clear, the arguments regarding 'awareness' and 'education' are not fully supported with concrete examples or nuanced reasoning. To improve, the writer should expand on the psychological or social reasons for popularity and provide more specific, well-developed arguments to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a higher level of critical thinking.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices such as 'One main reason,' 'Another reason,' and 'In conclusion.' However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. For example, the connection between the popularity of the shows and the claim that they 'educate' people is not smoothly integrated. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'This left an impression of watching one after one,' which lacks a clear antecedent. Improved use of linking words would enhance the overall progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. The writer relies on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'excitement and interest' and 'entertaining stuff.' There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'make it more curious' and 'take steps in the action,' which sound unnatural. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions. To reach a higher band, the writer should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to media and social impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it educate people'), incorrect tense usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'This left an impression of watching one after one'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in sentence construction, such as the run-on sentence in the conclusion: 'although these crime and TV dramas are very popular, but playing most important role...' The writer demonstrates an attempt at complex structures, but these are often marred by errors. More attention to basic grammatical accuracy and sentence variety is needed.
