Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this modern era, people are more curious about crime dramas and in many countries crime novels and TV drama has been increasing rapidly because of public interest and innovative stories. As per my opinion it is a negative idea of crime fiction and dramas are becoming popular. All the reasons and examples will be discussed further.

There are few reasons of crime novels and crime TV dramas are becoming famous. Firstly, increasingly demand of crime fiction in the country and secondly, people like to watch thrilling, suspense and drama films. For example there is one TV show called Crime Patrol is one of the popular show in India for crime fiction lovers and they create fake situations and stories of crime in the show because of this, crime books and crime TV dramas got popularity in some countries.

Meanwhile, I believe that crime novels and movies have negative impact on society. Because it promotes violence and abusive language in the nation. Moreover, popularity of crime fiction can affect to the young generation by watching or reading crime stories. People can learn to kill someone by watching crime fiction and that would make worse situation for the countries. In my opinion it is not a healthy thing that has been increasing rapidly in some countries.

To conclude, crime Fiction and novels are becoming more popular nowadys in some nation because individuals have curiosity to watch murders and investigation process, but this might can effect negatively in the society by promoting weapons and violence through crime novels and crime TV dramas.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the popularity of crime fiction and your personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. The reasons provided, such as 'increasingly demand' and 'thrilling, suspense', are somewhat superficial and repetitive. The opinion section is clear but lacks depth; for instance, the claim that 'people can learn to kill someone by watching crime fiction' is an over-generalisation that lacks logical support. To improve, you should provide more nuanced arguments and concrete examples that explain the psychological or social appeal of these genres rather than relying on broad assertions about negative impacts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' to signal transitions. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear or repetitive. For example, the phrase 'because of this' in the second paragraph is used to connect ideas, but the preceding sentence structure is fragmented. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'popular', 'good', and 'bad' (implied by 'negative idea'). There are also some collocation errors, such as 'increasingly demand' (should be 'increasing demand') and 'affect to the young generation' (should be 'affect the young generation'). To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'gripping', 'psychological thriller', 'societal influence', or 'morbid curiosity', and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'this might can effect' (incorrect modal usage and confusion between 'effect' and 'affect'), 'there is one TV show called Crime Patrol is one of the popular show' (grammatically redundant), and 'in some nation' (should be 'in some nations'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the control over complex sentence structures is inconsistent. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs would significantly improve your accuracy.
